The Holocaust is the most prominent, unique, and appalling act of intolerance of the modern age. The number of people (6 million) who died during the Holocaust (not including WWII victims) can't be comprehended by most. The number of people who died, however, is not what makes this catastrophe unique. What's astonishing is how precise/organized the Nazis were in pulling this mass killing off. There were many dedicated Nazis who were committed to this cause. They often genuinely believed that it was their responsibility to take away from other human beings 'certain unalienable rights' and forgot the humanity that would normally compel them to protect those rights.
